CLASSIC VEHICLE RESTORATION TECHNICIAN / ALL-ROUNDER

DankDubs is looking for a practical restoration all-rounder with strong preparation and paint skills, automotive welding experience and the ability to carry out stripping, refitting and routine mechanical work.

We’re a small, friendly team working on classic restorations, performance cars and campervans. Projects include Mk2 Golfs, Sierra Cosworths, Porsche 911s, T4 campervans and Golf Rs. The work includes full resprays, restoration paintwork, body repairs and the mechanical work needed to move projects through the workshop. Our facilities include a commercial spray booth.

You will work with the owner across different stages of a project and take an active role in organising the day-to-day workshop. We need someone who notices what needs doing, takes pride in the quality of their work and helps keep jobs moving.

PREPARATION AND PAINTWORK

• Preparing panels and vehicles for paint, including sanding, filling and shaping repairs.

• Masking, priming, flatting and carrying out final preparation to a high standard.

• Spraying and refinishing vehicles, including full resprays, panel painting and blow-ins, with careful attention to colour and finish.

• Flatting, polishing, correcting paint defects and checking the finished work.

WELDING AND BODYWORK

• Carrying out automotive welding and body repairs as part of restoration projects.

• Repairing corroded areas and fitting repair sections or replacement panels.

• Checking panel fit and preparing completed repairs for the next stage of work.

STRIPPING, REFITTING AND MECHANICAL WORK

• Carefully removing and refitting panels, trim and other components needed for restoration and paintwork.

• Keeping removed parts organised, labelled and protected so they can be refitted correctly.

• Carrying out routine mechanical work, including suspension work, and checking completed repairs.

• Raising any problems or additional work needed with the owner.

WORKSHOP ORGANISATION

• Planning the practical workflow with the owner and agreeing priorities as work progresses.

• Keeping tools, equipment, panels, parts and materials organised, accessible and ready for use.

• Checking that the items needed for upcoming work are available, monitoring consumable stocks and flagging shortages early.

• Keeping the owner informed about progress, delays and anything affecting the quality or timing of the work.

• Maintaining clean work areas, looking after equipment and keeping access routes clear.

• Following workshop safety procedures and using the required protective equipment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

At least one year of practical automotive preparation and painting experience, with demonstrable ability in automotive welding, stripping/refitting and routine mechanical work.

You should be reliable, mechanically minded and comfortable taking initiative. Attention to detail, clear communication and an organised approach are essential. Experience with classic vehicles and restoration projects would be useful.
