Role Overview
As the Category Director reporting to the Managing Director - Business Development, you will lead teams across Trading, Pricing, Promotions, Category, and Format, fully accountable for retail trading performance nationally. This executive role calls for a commercial leader with strategic vision and decisive execution to enhance sales, margins, and customer offerings in a competitive retail market.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead retail trading across the estate with autonomy over commercial direction.
- Analyze current trading operations and identify profitability improvements.
- Negotiate with suppliers, wholesalers, and partners to enhance commercial deals.
- Optimize pricing, ranging, promotions, and overall retail propositions.
- Develop and implement strategic trading plans aligned with business growth and EBITDA targets.
- Collaborate closely with the MD and board to influence strategic decisions.
- Lead and nurture high-performing commercial teams.
- Use market insights and customer data to drive trading decisions and growth opportunities.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates are commercially astute leaders with significant senior experience in convenience retail, forecourt, grocery, or multi-site retail sectors. You're expected to have a proven record of improving commercial performance, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to make challenging commercial decisions confidently.
