Job Description
ENGINE CONVERSION MECHANIC / FABRICATOR
DankDubs — Stockton, near Southam, Warwickshire, CV23 8HY
Hourly rate: £20–£24 per hour, depending on proven experience and ability
Working arrangement: Full-time, permanent, employed
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9am–6pm
Workshop based
DankDubs is looking for a capable engine conversion mechanic/fabricator who can take a practical project through installation, wiring and checks, with a clear understanding of how the parts need to work together.
We are a small, friendly workshop in Stockton, near Southam, working on classic cars, performance cars and campervans. Projects include Mk2 Golfs, Sierra Cosworths, Porsche 911s, T4 campervans and Golf Rs.
This role is for someone with hands-on engine conversion experience who is confident with mechanical fitting, automotive fabrication and wiring. We need someone who works carefully, keeps parts and jobs organised, and takes pride in a conversion that fits properly and works reliably.
THE WORK
Your work will include:
• Stripping, inspecting and refitting engines, gearboxes and associated components for conversion projects.
• Planning the installation with the owner, checking fitment and identifying the parts and practical changes needed.
• Making, adapting and welding engine and gearbox mounts, brackets and exhaust sections as required.
• Installing and integrating the engine and associated cooling, fuel, intake and exhaust systems.
• Making or adapting wiring looms, sorting relevant engine-management wiring and diagnosing electrical faults.
• Carrying out initial start-up, leak and function checks, basic commissioning and fault finding.
• Checking that components are secure, clearances are suitable and the completed installation operates correctly.
• Carrying out routine strip-and-refit, mechanical and suspension work alongside conversion projects.
• Keeping removed parts and fixings organised and recording progress, problems and parts needed.
• Keeping tools and work areas tidy and following workshop safety procedures.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You should have at least one year of hands-on automotive mechanical experience. You must also have proven engine conversion experience and be confident handling the mechanical installation, welding/fabrication and wiring involved. Experience with classic cars, performance cars or campervans would be useful.
Please show us examples of conversions you have completed and explain exactly which parts of the job you handled yourself. We are particularly interested in your own work on engine or gearbox fitting, mounts and exhaust fabrication, wiring looms and fault finding. Photos and a short explanation of the work are welcome.
We are looking for a methodical approach, reliability, attention to detail and clear communication. You should be comfortable identifying a problem, discussing the options and working through it properly.
This is a full-time, permanent employed role. The rate offered within the £20–£24 hourly range will reflect your proven conversion experience and the level of work you can handle independently.
